Msql-Mysql-modules
1.2017-1 (6/5/1999)
RPM SRPM
M(y)sql.pm and DBD::mSQL(mysql) implement two different approaches to
communicate with an mSQL or mysql server. DBD::mSQL(mysql) is built
upon the DBI, the generic Perl Database Interface. It brings you an
identical interface to a broad variety of databases and is in this
regard comparable to ODBC. The advantage of the DBI approach is
portability and interoperability. M(y)sql.pm are the elder species.
They were written before DBI was available but inspired by an early
draft of the DBI specification. As they have been circulating longer
they are more mature and pretty stable. They're also more complete
than DBD::mSQL and DBD::mysql.

the notion of revision control from a collection of files in a single
directory to a hierarchical collection of directories consisting of
revision controlled files. These directories and files can be
combined together to form a software release. CVS provides the
functions necessary to manage these software releases and to control
the concurrent editing of source files among multiple software
developers.
daVinci
2.1-3 (10/31/1998)
RPM SRPM
daVinci is a universal, generic visualization system for automatic generation
of high-quality drawings of directed graphs. Graphs are frequently used in
computer applications as a general data structure to represent objects and
relationships between them. They are used to implement hierarchies,
dependency structures, networks, configurations, dataflows, and so on. In
despite of this manifold demand, techniques to visualize such graphs are not
common in today's computer applications. So frequently a user has to deal
with uncomfortable textual interfaces or poor ad-hoc drawings of graphs,
because high-quality graph layout is difficult to implement and reusable
tools for graph visualization are often hard to find.

libPropList
0.8.3-1 (1/28/1999)
RPM SRPM
The libPropList library, hereafter referred to as PL, uses an opaque
data type to represent a tree structure made of strings, data blocks,
arrays and dictionaries (key-value pair lists). This structure can be
manipulated, written out to and read in from a file, and synchronized
with the contents of a file. The purpose of PL is to closely mimick the
behaviour of the property lists used in GNUstep/OPENSTEP (there formed
with the NSString, NSData, NSArray and NSDictionary classes) and to be
compatible with it. PL enables programs that use configuration or
preference files to make these compatible with GNUstep/OPENSTEP's user
defaults handling mechanism, without needing to use Objective-C or
GNUstep/OPENSTEP themselves.

mkinitrd
1.9-5 (3/5/1999)
RPM SRPM
Mkinitrd creates filesystem images for use as initial ramdisk (initrd)
images. These ramdisk images are often used to preload the block
device modules (SCSI or RAID) needed to access the root filesystem.

In other words, generic kernels can be built without drivers for any
SCSI adapters which load the SCSI driver as a module. Since the kernel
needs to read those modules, but in this case it isn't able to address
the SCSI adapter, an initial ramdisk is used. The initial ramdisk is
loaded by the operating system loader (normally LILO) and is available
to the kernel as soon as the ramdisk is loaded. The ramdisk image
loads the proper SCSI adapter and allows the kernel to mount the root
filesystem. The mkinitrd program creates such a ramdisk using
information found in the /etc/conf.modules file.

PostgreSQL Data Base Management System (formerly known as Postgres, then as
Postgres95).

PostgreSQL is an enhancement of the POSTGRES database management system, a
next-generation DBMS research prototype. While PostgreSQL retains the
powerful data model and rich data types of POSTGRES, it replaces the PostQuel
query language with an extended subset of SQL. PostgreSQL is free and the
complete source is available.

PostgreSQL development is being performed by a team of Internet developers who
all subscribe to the PostgreSQL development mailing list. The current
coordinator is Marc G. Fournier (scrappy@postgreSQL.org). This team is now
responsible for all current and future development of PostgreSQL.

The authors of PostgreSQL 1.01 were Andrew Yu and Jolly Chen. Many others have
contributed to the porting, testing, debugging and enhancement of the code.
The original Postgres code, from which PostgreSQL is derived, was the effort
of many graduate students, undergraduate students, and staff programmers
working under the direction of Professor Michael Stonebraker at the University
of California, Berkeley.

The original name of the software at Berkeley was Postgres. When SQL
functionality was added in 1995, its name was changed to Postgres95. The name
was changed at the end of 1996 to PostgreSQL.
